Dereham, Norfolk
Perpetrator
Elaine Walpole, a 47-year-old grandmother and mother-of-three from Dereham, Norfolk, was raped and murdered in her flat at Driebholz Court on 7 April 2008.
Juvinal Batican Ferreira (also known as Juvinal Ferreira), a Gambian national who had arrived in the UK in 2007, befriended her before carrying out the brutal attack.
He stabbed her through the neck, leaving bite marks on her face, and left her body in the flat.
Ferreira, who claimed to be 16 at the time but was proven to be at least 20, was convicted of rape and murder at Norwich Crown Court in 2009 and sentenced to life with a minimum of 22 years.
In 2013, while in Wakefield Prison, he received a second life sentence for slashing child killer Mark Bridger’s face with a razor weapon.
Rest in peace Elaine. You will not be forgotten.
