Harvey Willgoose
2009 – 2025
Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Perpetrator
Harvey Willgoose, a 15-year-old pupil at All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield, was murdered on 3 February 2025 during lunch break in the school courtyard.
Mohammed Umar Khan (also referred to as Umar Khan), who was also 15 at the time and a fellow pupil in Year Nine, stabbed Harvey twice in the chest with a 13cm hunting knife that he had brought into school. One stab went through the heart, severing a rib.
The pair had been former friends but had quarrelled over social media in the days leading up to the attack. Khan approached Harvey, they briefly talked, then Khan pulled out the knife and stabbed him. Harvey died at the scene. CCTV captured the incident, and other pupils described chaos with people running and screaming.
Khan claimed he “snapped” and lost control, citing bullying, racist abuse online, a medical condition, and issues at home. The prosecution said he had an unhealthy interest in weapons, had researched knives online, and wanted to “show he was hard.” He was found guilty of murder and possessing a bladed article on school premises.
On 22 October 2025 at Sheffield Crown Court, Mrs Justice Naomi Ellenbogen sentenced him to detention for life with a minimum term of 16 years (minus time on remand). The judge lifted his anonymity due to the public interest in school knife crime. He remains in custody.
Rest in peace Harvey. You will not be forgotten.
