John Monckton

John Monckton, 49-year-old Roman Catholic, was a city financier and devoted family man, who was stabbed to death in his home in Chelsea, London, on 29 November 2004 during a violent robbery.

John was killed by Damien Hanson and his accomplice Elliott White.

Hanson, who had been released just three months earlier after serving only half of a 12-year sentence for attempted murder, posed as a postman with White to force entry into the house. When Monckton bravely confronted the intruders to protect his family, Hanson stabbed him repeatedly in the chest and upper body in a frenzied attack, killing him within the hour; his wife Homeyra was also severely stabbed but survived.

Their nine-year-old daughter called the police as the killers fled.

Hanson was convicted of murder, attempted murder, and robbery, receiving a rare minimum 36-year tariff, while White was sentenced to 18 years for manslaughter and related offences. The case sparked outrage over the early release of dangerous offenders on probation.
