Louella Fletcher-Michie, the 24-year-old daughter of actor John Michie, died on 11 September 2017 (the day before her 25th birthday) at the Bestival music festival in Dorset.
She took a large dose of the hallucinogenic Class A drug 2C-P, which she had been given by her boyfriend, rapper Ceon Broughton, suffered a fatal overdose, and was found dead in woodland about 400 metres from the festival’s medical tent.
Broughton filmed Louella Fletcher-Michie extensively on his phone over a period of about six hours as she suffered a severe reaction to the 2C-P she had taken. Trial evidence showed he recorded her while she became agitated, hallucinated, screamed for help, ate twigs and thorns, and eventually slipped into unconsciousness and died
Broughton was originally convicted of her manslaughter by gross negligence in 2019 and sentenced to eight-and-a-half years, but the manslaughter conviction was overturned on appeal in August 2020 due to insufficient evidence, and no retrial was ordered.
He remains convicted of supplying the drug that killed her. No one else has been held criminally responsible for her death.
Her death was a terrible tragedy for her family, who have since campaigned on drug safety.
