Patrick McGee was a 63-year-old White British man and devoted father from Crumpsall whose life was tragically taken on 15 December 2008.
He was a kind, gentle and hardworking man who had worked all his life and was described in court as the perfect neighbour.
He was stabbed 17 times with severe force and decapitated in a horrific unprovoked attack in his own home on Parkhill Avenue after he answered the door to his next-door neighbour. His severed head was later found by police in a wheelie bin in the front garden.
The attacker was Eric Cruz, a 32-year-old Filipino immigrant from the same street who acted under the delusional belief that Patrick was planning to harm his 17-month-old son.
Cruz admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility at Manchester Crown Court and was detained indefinitely under a hospital order.
Rest in peace Patrick. You will not be forgotten.
