Richard Everitt

Richard Everitt was a 15-year-old schoolboy from London who was targeted by a gang of Bangladeshis near York Way in King’s Cross, on 13 August 1994.

Badrul Miah was convicted of conspiracy to murder Richard Everitt (a 15-year-old boy stabbed to death in an unprovoked attack by a gang of British Bangladeshi youths in Somers Town, London, on 13 August 1994), and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 12 years; he was released in 2008.

Showat Akbar was convicted of violent disorder in connection with the same incident and sentenced to three years in youth detention.

The actual killer was never identified (the prosecution treated it as a joint enterprise), and a third defendant, Abdul Hai, was acquitted.

Miah and Akbar were described by the judge as ringleaders of the gang, which had been seeking revenge on another white boy but attacked the innocent Everitt.

Richard had no involvement in gangs and was simply returning home after spending time with friends when he was attacked.
