Stacey Westbury, a 23-year-old mother from Fulham, west London, was sexually assaulted, stabbed, and strangled to death in her flat on 17 August 2007 while alone with her 10-month-old baby son, who was left unharmed in his cot.
Her body was discovered nearly 24 hours later by her father.
The killer was Christopher Braithwaite (also later known as Khalid in some reports), a 22-year-old crack cocaine addict from Shepherd’s Bush who knew her slightly from school.
Just eight days earlier, he had been arrested on suspicion of rape and false imprisonment of another woman but was released on police bail. He pleaded guilty to murder and sexual assault, and was jailed for life at the Old Bailey in June 2008 with a minimum term of 30 years.
The judge described the sexually motivated attack as particularly grave. Braithwaite had previous convictions, including for wounding.
Rest in peace Stacey. You will not be forgotten.
