David Henkel

David Henkel, a 32-year-old man from Luton Road in Chatham, Kent, was killed on 26 July 2005 (he died three days after the assault) outside a kebab shop in Bank Street, Chatham.

While out one Saturday night with his girlfriend, he approached Nowbahar Bahar, originally from Afghanistan, asking about an off-licence.

Bahar took £10 from him but later returned saying he had lost it; an argument and pushing followed, after which Bahar punched Henkel once in the face.

Henkel fell, hitting his head on the ground or a wall, fracturing his skull, and died from the head injuries.

Two teenage witnesses said Bahar was the only one who threw a punch. Bahar claimed self-defence but was convicted of manslaughter at Maidstone Crown Court in January 2006 and sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison.
