Marcin Bilaszewski was a 19-year-old man from north London whose life was tragically taken on 9 May 2010 near Finsbury Park station.
He is remembered by his family and friends as a young man with his future ahead of him, whose death caused profound grief to those who knew him. His murder shocked the local community and prompted a major police investigation.
He was travelling with friends on the night of the incident when an altercation broke out following a confrontation on a bus and later near Seven Sisters Road.
Alphonse Kruizinga, a Dutch national originally from Cameroon, killed him after making racist slurs blaming Poles for starting the Second World War on a bus and following the group, Kruizinga punched the girlfriend, and when Marcin stepped in to protect her, Kruizinga stabbed him once in the back with a concealed knife before fleeing.
He was later convicted of manslaughter rather than murder, plus knife possession, and sentenced to imprisonment for public protection with a minimum of five years.
