Mark Conway

Mark Conway, a 28-year-old shift manager, and father-to-be from Hull, was brutally murdered on 12 August 2005 at the Land Food Products factory in Copenhagen Road, Hull. His killer was Saman Salih Karim, an Iraqi asylum seeker who had been living in Hull for about two years.

Karim arrived for his shift nearly five hours late. When Conway called him into the office to discuss his poor timekeeping, Karim pulled out a seven-inch knife and stabbed him repeatedly in the chest and stomach, piercing his heart. Conway died at the scene. 

Karim fled, hid the knife and tried to escape the country from Dover, but was arrested. He pleaded guilty to murder at Hull Crown Court in 2006 and was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 16 years. He was deported back to Iraq in 2022 after serving his tariff.
