Nicholas Shepherd

Nicholas Shepherd, a 39-year-old self-employed IT worker and former university lecturer from Bebington on the Wirral, was murdered on 16 October 2005 in the Rob Roy pub on Beaumont Street in Toxteth, Liverpool.

A well-educated man who had gained a BSc and Masters degree, Nicholas was standing at the bar when Lloyd George Patten attacked him.

Patten had stolen Shepherd’s laptop two weeks earlier and returned to the pub specifically to confront him. He stabbed Shepherd seven times — four times in the chest, with one wound penetrating his left lung — in a frenzied attack in front of witnesses.

Shepherd died in hospital shortly afterwards. Patten was arrested, tried at Liverpool Crown Court, and convicted of murder on 23 March 2006. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
