PC Keith Palmer

PC Keith Palmer was a police officer and former soldier who was killed on 22nd March 2017 defending the Palace of Westminster during the Westminster Bridge terror attack.

While heading to a hospital appointment for his eyes, he was among the pedestrians deliberately struck by Khalid Masood (born Adrian Russell Ajao), who drove a rented Hyundai SUV at high speed across the bridge, injuring dozens. Rhodes suffered severe injuries, was taken to King’s College Hospital, and died the next day after life support was withdrawn.

Masood, a 52-year-old British-born convert to Islam with a long criminal history but no direct prior terrorism links (though he had been investigated), continued into the Palace of Westminster grounds, where he fatally stabbed PC Keith Palmer before being shot dead by armed police. ISIS claimed responsibility, though no evidence showed direct operational ties.

PC Palmer stood alone against a knife-wielding attacker and gave his life protecting Parliament and the people inside it.

No one else was prosecuted for the attack itself, as Masood acted alone and was killed at the scene.

PC Palmer is remembered and honoured as a hero.
