Rachel Manning
1981 – 2000
Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire
Perpetrator
Rachel Manning, a 19-year-old shop assistant from Milton Keynes, was murdered in the early hours of 10 December 2000.
After attending a 1970s-themed fancy dress party and then Chicago’s nightclub with her boyfriend Barri White, she became separated from him and decided to walk alone to find a taxi.
She was strangled, her face brutally disfigured with a steering lock, and her body dumped in undergrowth at Woburn Golf Club, where it was found two days later.
Her killer was Shahidul Ahmed, originally from Bangladesh and working as a restaurant worker in Bletchley, Milton Keynes.
He was convicted in 2013 at Luton Crown Court of her murder after his DNA was matched to the steering lock and a hair on her clothing. Ahmed was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 17 years.
He had previously been linked to a sex assault in 2010, which helped identify him. Notably, Rachel’s boyfriend Barri White and his friend Keith Hyatt were wrongly convicted in 2002 before being cleared years later
Rest in peace Rachel. You will not be forgotten.
