Thomas Winston

Thomas Winston

1987 – 2006

Camden, North London

Thomas Winston, an 18-year-old from Kentish Town in north London, was stabbed to death on the evening of 3 January 2006 in Brecknock Road, near the Unicorn pub.

The killer was his childhood friend Tyrell Anderson. The two fell out over a £40 mobile phone sale. A fight broke out, Winston was knocked to the ground, and as he was being helped up, Anderson pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed him three times in the back. One wound pierced his chest, and he died at the scene.

A week later, Anderson left a handwritten confession note among the floral tributes at the spot, saying: “I’m so sorry to end ur life Tom, you was one of my best pals. I didn’t mean to… only God knows why this happened.” He then handed himself in to police.

At the Old Bailey in November 2006, Anderson was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 13 years. The judge described the attack as “cruel and vicious.”

Rest in peace Thomas. You will not be forgotten.
