Ricky Smith
1972 – 1997
Highbury, North London
Ricky Smith was a 25-year-old father of two from Highbury whose life was tragically taken in October 1997.
He was walking home from a pub with his girlfriend in the early hours of 12 October 1997 when he was attacked without warning near Highbury Park in north London. Ricky was stabbed in the chest by a stranger and died from his injuries shortly afterwards.
Despite a long-running investigation and the recovery of DNA believed to belong to the attacker, nobody has ever been convicted of his murder. P
olice have described the suspect as a black male, aged approximately 25 to 35 at the time of the attack, over six feet tall with a slim athletic build and a West Indian accent.
Remembered by his family as a loving father, son and friend, Ricky was a much-loved young man whose death left a lasting void in the lives of those closest to him. His family have continued to campaign for justice and to keep his memory alive.
Rest in peace Ricky. You will not be forgotten.
