Terrence May

Terrence May was killed on 1st June 1981 in Thornton Heath, South London, amid local racial tensions.

A group of young Black people had gathered at Melfort Park to plan an attack on the Wilton Arms pub, which was regarded as a centre of National Front activity. After the pub attack was repulsed, the group moved on and pulled the uninvolved Terry May from a motorcycle sidecar, killing him.

In the aftermath, fifteen young Black men and boys were arrested and tried; following a lengthy trial, ten were convicted of riot, five of affray, and Ronald Pilgrim of manslaughter. 

Terrence is remembered with great love and sorrow by his family and all who knew him and his memory endures across the decades since his death.
